It is MOST DEFINITELY important. Recently I’ve presented very informative and through-provoking proposals to my church, encouraging them to take full advantage of all that the digital age has to offer. Two things are essential for this: 1) the millions of souls that can be saved with the gospel, and 2) believers around the world equipped and encouraged.
Part of my presentation included these eye-opening stats:
• 2.5 BILLION internet users in the world today; OVER 1/3 of our global population (little under 7 BIL)
• 245 MILLION internet users in the U.S. alone ; 78% of our population (Est pop: 313,232,044)
• 57% of people around the world communicate with other people MORE online than in real life
• Facebook has more than 800 million active users (1 in every 13 people on the planet)
• 28% of Facebook users check Facebook on their mobile devices BEFORE getting out of bed
• 48% between the ages 18 to 34 check Facebook right when they wake up
We need not bury this talent called the internet, else we’ll be held responsible like the wicked servant who buried his and be cast away. His lord was not pleased that he didn’t capitalize upon the talent placed within his possession.
As believers we should take advantage of every opportunity out there for the sake of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
