Turning the Page on 50 Years…
Progressive National Baptist Convention
by Dr. Leonard N Smith

President of PNBC, Dr. Carroll Baltimore

During August 7-12, delegates from across the globe will convene in the nation’s capital for the annual gathering of The Progressive National Baptist Convention, Inc. (PNBC). One of the largest Historical African American Baptist Conventions in the world and is made up of over 2,000 churches and 2.5 million members globally.

This year, however, is unlike any other, because it will mark 50 years of PNBC’s existence. There are enormous and exciting plans for the week-long series of activities/events, including an opening musical with special guest artists (sponsored by the Host Committee), inspirational preaching, lectures and classes, Evangelism and Missions Night, Youth Night, The Dr. Gardner C. Taylor Hour, President’s Night, and a 50th Anniversary Gala Banquet with President Barrack Obama (invited).

*For the full story, pick up the Jul/Aug issue of Gospel Today Magazine!

Do you plan to attend this convention? What do you think of PNBC?

One Response to “Progressive National Baptist Convention Turns 50!”
  1. Lynn Hull says:

As a teenager, I attended the (former) Zion Hill Baptist Church in Los Angeles California. I recall my esteem pastor Dr. Timothy M Chambers Senior, spoke to us about this new convention he was instrumental in organizing – The Progressive National Baptist Convention- I believe the group met in Texas (?) Recall how hard they worked on putting the convention into place.
I was actually baptized by Dr. Chambers himself. My being a little hefty, I also recall that pastors knees tended to buckle as he took me back into the baptism pool. BLESS MY BONES! Such sweet, sweet memories! It’s all gone now but the knowledge and gifts I received from my Church remain in my heart. (Yes, I intend to attend at least some portion of the convention here in Washington, DC) M. Lynn Hull
